2022 Delegate Cheat Sheet
The principal business of the Legislative District (LD) Caucuses is to elect delegates and alternates to the
2022 Democratic State Convention. Delegates are responsible for participating in the review and submission of amendments to the Convention Rules, Platform and Resolutions.
The delegate election will be held virtually on March 26th beginning at 10am PST. Caucus will last approximately 2 hours. Voting will be handled offline.
- ANYONE living in the 34th LD can run to be a delegate
- You don’t have to be a member of the 34th (but have to be a Democrat?!)
- You have to register to attend or vote in the Caucus, by Monday, March 21, 8pm. Link will be sent out by Carla in weekly What’s Happening emails, and will be on the website. Will also be provided at March membership meeting.
- You have to register here (an easy Google form) to run as a delegate for the Convention, by 6 pm, Friday March 25 (the evening before the caucus)
- We are strongly encouraging folks in the following groups to apply, so that we can have a meaningful and equal representation of our LD demographics: Black, Latino, AAPI, Native American, LGBTQ+, person with a disability, young people (under 36).
- We need more or less equal numbers of males/females/gender non-binary folks, so this will have to be taken into account in the final delegate count.
- You are encouraged to provide a written candidate statement (space for this is included in your registration form) which will be published on our website and a link will be provided to members on Wednesday, March 23rd. If you do not submit a written statement by that time, you will still have a chance to give a verbal statement at the Caucus (see below).
- All candidates will have an opportunity to give a 30-second verbal statement at the March 26 LD Caucus.
- After the caucus, successful candidates will be notified that they are an official delegate. A couple of virtual meetings will be held in May and early June, in order to help delegates prepare for their role in the Convention.
- The State Democratic Convention General Session will be held on Saturday, June 25 in Tacoma, WA. (the entire Convention activities will take place starting on Friday, June 24 and will continue through Sunday, June 26, but the business part of the convention will take place all day Saturday, and that is the part that delegates are required to attend.
You may attend either in person or virtually, but you must make that decision no and inform the 34th Chair/Caucus Chair no later than April 1.
