We Need to Take Back Control of Our World

Congress member Jim McDermott is faced with court proceedings mounted by Republicans
who are trying to get rid of “real” Democrats before Bush, with his low ratings, is impeached.
It will take years of ”real” Democratic leadership to try and deal with the loss of millions
of lives, billions of dollars in war waged by borrowed money from China and Japan, and the
loss of goodwill which we once had in many countries of the world.
The hardworking people of the world are always so stressed out that they are sometimes
swayed by the soothing syrup of the media to believe even what is against their best
interests. But finally they look up from their poverty, homelessness, mental illness,
overwhelmed transportation systems, global warming, lack of health care and family support
services, absence of early childhood education, and realize that it is time for a change.
It is a common occurrence for those in power, who are creaming off billions in profits from
a system skewed toward the rich, to label dissenters. Yes, anyone who spoke against those
who control the system was once labeled Communist. Then it was the Big L, Liberal. Only the
so-called conservative right wing knew what God wanted us to do. If we didn’t like what
another country was doing, we could bomb them into a democratic state of being, right?
If another segment of world society didn’t have the atomic bombs that we have and didn’t
like what we were doing around the world (upholding dictators, establishing army bases around
the world, torturing prisoners, trading arms for hostages, breaking world law in Nicaragua
etc.) their only outlet was what we call terrorism.
This is how the people in power keep the little people down. Anyone who protests is
called a subversive, a crazy dissenter, and when they protest in groups, their numbers in
the street are downplayed.
Bush needs to be afraid. His support is diminishing. He is spending more and more
time at media events where his hand picked audience bow to him in front of TV cameras.
But those of us who have finally had enough know what we now have to do. We citizens
of the world need to take back our countries and finally the world and learn to become
invested in our own futures and not the future depicted to us by the corporate media. We
need to stop being just consumers and become involved at every level of government. We need
to become a part of decision making and planning for the best interests of all citizens and
not just a privileged few. We need to become the “real” Democrats of the future.
