Chair Ivan Weiss' Message for October

What Barack Obama's Candidacy Means to Me

From the minute I open my mouth, people know I'm not "from here," and it's true.
I have lived in King County, Washington for most of my life, but my accent is pure Philadelphia, PA, where I was born and raised.
Philadelphia means "City of Brotherly Love." It isn't. Philadelphia sent a lot of soldiers to fight for the Union in the Civil War to free the slaves, and it still has a lot of Civil War monuments, yet when I lived there it was, and it remains, bitterly polarized along racial lines.
When I was born, my neighborhood ...

Seven Years
In a moment of bipartisan unity, Senators John McCain and Barack Obama plan to come together Thursday at the World Trade Center site in New York to commemorate the seventh anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The two campaigns issued a rare joint statement Saturday announcing the plans of the Republican and Democratic nominees. They also will appear together at a forum later that day at Columbia University. "All of us came together on 9/11 - not as Democrats or Republicans - but as Americans," the candidates said in their statement. "In smoke-filled corridors and on the steps of the Capitol, at blood banks and at vigils - we were united as one American family. "On Thursday, we will put aside politics and come together to renew that unity, to honor the memory of each and every American who died, and to grieve with the families and friends who lost loved ones."

•   The Stranger Slog
•   The Telluride News
•   National Public Radio (see 3rd photo down)
•   The Boston Globe
And the Denver Post proclaimed Chris Porter's attire the "most creative costume" the last night at Invesco Field. See story here.
This article states our delegate Nick Bordner is the second youngest Delegate at the Convention:

Chair Ivan Weiss' Message for September
Crunch Time

The primary election is over and the last of the numbers are trickling in. In this chairman's opinion, one statistic is more relevant to the 34th District Democratic Party organization than any other:
King County voter turnout: 31.88 percent.
This more than anything illustrates the task we have at hand between now and November 4 - Get Out The Vote, GOTV.
We know the turnout in the 34th will be higher than 31.88 percent. It's probably higher for the primary than the King County average. Our turnout in 2004 was 85 percent, with a 72 percent Democratic vote for the top of the ticket. We can meet or beat this, and that is our goal. After Labor Day, it's crunch time for this election ...
