34th District Outreach Hacks Away
34th District supports VCS On May 13th our phenomenal 34th Distict Outreach Committee sponsored a sweat-filled event, helping an elderly couple in the Belvidere aera of West Seattle. A group of 19 volunteers from the 34th District and some neighbors hauled more than one-and-a-half tons of debris and vegetation from the backyard of this home. The event was co-sponsored by Volunteer Chore Services of Catholic Community Services. Our own Steve Karbowski worked hard to organize the event ad gather the volunteers. See some more details and a lot more photos on the VCS-Outreach events page.
Mayor Nickels and volunteers Solstice Park On May 20th, 34th District volunteers joined others to help with the White Center spring clean and Seattle's Clean-and-Green at Solstice Park. The photo at right shows our very own members Mayor Greg Nickels, Bruce Stotler and the Clean-and-Green Group. See the May 20th event page for some additional photos.

What an exciting meeting! We listened to and questioned a panel of experts on the Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement. These experts came from private firms and groups, and transportation agencies around the region. The main topic of discussion: what sort of transportation structure will adorn Seattle's waterfront for the next 100 years? We also approved Dina Johnson's great new design for our 34th District logo, as pictured. (Click the design to see a larger version.) We'll be printing T-Shirts for use at our many events this summer. See the May minutes page for photos, minutes, notes, and Chair Ivan Weiss' letter for May. 34th Dems will be Cleaning Up on May 20th!
Outreach Event 2005 - DelridgeSpring has sprung and 34th District members are helping to clean up White Center and West Seattle. Our very active Outreach Committee is seeking volunteers to help fellow 34th District member Mayor Greg Nickels to tidy up Solstice Park on Saturday, May 20th. And we also need volunteers to help clean up more than 12 different areas of White Center for the annual White Center Spring Clean event, May 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch is provided and after these events we'll probably reconvene at the Beveridge Place Pub for a bit of merriment. See details on both Solistice Park and White Center on the calendar page.

Vashon Island Democrats - Saturday May 20th
"I just voted.   Where does my ballot go?   How can I know that my vote is counted properly?"   The answers to these and many other questions about voting machines and systems will be discussed at this month's meeting of the Vashon Democratic Club on Saturday, May 20.   Dan Schueler and Roger Fulton, members of an Island group that has researched these issues extensively, will lead the discussion.   We will also view the new, 18-minute documentary "Help America Vote...on Paper" prior to the talk.  Come join in the discussion! We meet in the Land Trust building: potluck social at 6:00, meeting 6:30-8:30. For more information, contact Roger Fulton at 463-5652.
